Charity Work Plan for the World
Tears to Smiles is a charity organization dedicated to working with children, families and communities to overcome poverty and illnesses.
We are currently raising funds to help underprivileged sick children in the United Kingdom and the Third World. We are a charity dedicated to helping children and families all over the world where HIV and AIDS are claiming lives of children on a daily basis.
This charity was established in 1993 with a vision of helping children in crises and sickness.
The countries we provide aid for in Southern Africa are Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Zimbabwe and also in Sri Lanka. More recently we have become active in the UK, with branches now in
Leeds and Manchester. Maintaining 'quality of life' standards anywhere in the world and the UK, to help poorer people, children and also the elderly is our prime aim.
By working through our partner organisations in all these countries we can effectively assist children and their families worldwide.
Why do we care?
The current gun culture, knife crime, gangs and the recent rioting in London, UK have not escaped our attention. These events are affecting both black & white communities and becoming an enigma of our time.
Many children today feel alienated from the society we live in as a result of so much materialism, and their frustration at their own under achievements both academically and socially where they feel they cannot compete in the main stream. Tears to Smiles Leeds is already addressing this problem, backed with funding to help poor and handicapped children (Soundbeam project) to get into the mainstream by achieving goals they can be proud of.
It's this 'hands on' approach that Tears for Smiles feel will make for a more caring and understanding community.
Working with the local communities is the way forward if we are to successfully gain the respect of young people. The old philosophy of the carrot and the stick no longer applies as children want to see more fairness in our society.
People in Africa are an enigma. Poverty and deprivation are not simply a rural problem but often exist in the squalid conditions found on the outskirts of major cities. Poor education and sanitation are responsible for the current outbreaks of cholera, dysentery and sexually transmitted diseases including AIDS.
Sierra Leone
Just see the squalid conditions people are living in in Freetown, Sierra Leone and you will recognise the inhuman housing conditions that exist on the outskirts of a major city.
Examples similar to these are prevalent in all the areas of the world we are trying to assist.
