OUR UK CHARITY EFFORT

We want to ensure that every child and young person has the self-esteem, social skills, resilience they need to succeed in life. We want underprivileged children in the UK to have the inner strength to overcome the difficulties they face.  In particular we wish to confront Knife & Gun crimes and remove the current worrying trend of gang culture.  The London riots (mirrored across the UK in 2011) are a grim reminder of our need to embrace the failings of our society here in the UK and recapture the minds of young people to support the communities in which they live.

It is very important for a fair society to help underprivileged children including those with disabilities to achieve as well as they can in our UK society.

Great Ormond Street

The project manager of Tears To Smiles, Miss Lillian Onwughara presented a gift to Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity after meeting the staff and children of the Elephant Ward which takes care of children suffering from cancer.

We want to make sure we build children's inner strength and emotional well-being by developing and promoting new ways of building inner strength and emotional stability for the most vulnerable young people and children.

We want to promote knowledge of ways to help children in growing strong, and put pressure on everyone to influence children's lives positively.  We will try to develop new campaign calls as our research programme progresses to provide services that reach the most vulnerable children in time to prevent their problems escalating and causing them to commit crime.

We are always working with other charities to build children's inner strength and well-being by giving them a chance to speak out about what has been positive and helped them to get out of trouble.
Gun crime (Home office)

Gun-related crime kills, maims and intimidates, and is frequently linked to gang activity and the illegal drugs trade in the UK.  We are committed to tackling gun crime to ensure the safety and security of all British citizens.

There are a number of key issues we wish to address.  By making our efforts within those communities in the areas most affected by gun crime, to help teenagers realise how they can so easily ruin their own lives as well as the lives of others by not respecting each other.

To provide good role models in the community.  Use local knowledge to break up any negative gang activity which is taking young people into a life of crime, gun culture and drugs.

England Football Team bid to urge young people not to carry knives,

We support local communities in achieving this, and also support the Home Secretary in his recent initiative:

At the Home Secretary's meeting with the England Football Team in a bid to urge young people not to carry knives, Emeliem Okwuadi, Head of Policy at Tears to Smiles, says:

"We are happy that the England Football Team are getting behind the fight against knife crime and raising awareness of this issue, but if we really want to find lasting solutions to

this problem, we need to engage with young people to find out why so many of them are getting caught up in gun and knife crime."

"Through our work nearly one in four young people have been affected by gun and knife crime.  We need to remember that they are more often victims rather than perpetrators of knives and gun crime.  We must start involving young people in this debate, especially the most vulnerable youngsters who are often the ones most affected."
